Features

KHostChooser offers some features that are not supported by the standard KDE2 chooser. All these features are optional and can be disabled by the system administrator if he does not like them.

The following features are supported:

  • Specifying an arbitary hostname. An optional line-edit widget allows you to enter a host to connect to instead of selecting one from the host list. This can be useful when you want to connect to a host that is not listed in the host list.
  • Using a command button. An additional button allows you not only to connect to a remote machine using XDMCP, but to do other useful stuff. -- The sysadmin can configure this button to provide a Telnet functionality to the selected host. This feature is useful if you have messed up your personal X11 startup files.
  • Configrable Logo Display. You can choose an arbitrary logo to be displayed in the upper left corner of the chooser if you want to. You can even get an analog clock instead of the logo. (Thanks to Andreas Faisst for porting kdm's clock to KHostChooser.)
  • Configurable static message text. To prevent your users from turning off the terminal when they leave...
If you want to know what KHostChooser looks like with all the features enabled, just have a look at the screenshots page.
